The density of that Luxe Midnight memory foam is 2½ pounds per cubic foot, which is under the 3 pounds per cubic foot that experts say is the minimum ideal for people who weigh 200 pounds or less. For example, the Luxe version of the Midnight also uses actual memory foam (as opposed to only the faux “Memory Foam Plus” in the Standard options, which is made from polyfoam). In addition, we’re not sure how durable the Luxe versions will be for people who weigh more than 200 pounds. Based on reporting for our mattress-buying guide, a “cooler” cover probably won’t make too much of a difference for people who sleep very hot, and zoning may not be helpful if your size or sleep predilections don’t have your shoulders and hips falling at exactly the right spot. The add-ons may or may not be meaningful for you. The Midnight did not sleep hot for me, but inherently hot sleepers may have a different experience. We sampled it in the Midnight and indeed found the bed to feel less “sticky” and huggy than the true memory-foam mattresses in our 2018 blind test. Given that it’s a proprietary material and we haven’t long-term tested it, it’s hard to comment on how it compares from a durability standpoint to actual memory foam or other polyfoams. Helix representatives told us that the Memory Foam Plus is designed with “microscopic air capsules” to provide curve-conforming pressure relief with more resilience and breathability than real memory foam. All three beds have a comfort layer that’s made with “Memory Foam Plus,” a polyurethane foam (polyfoam) that’s not actually memory foam but promises (according to the brand) a similar feel. So if you’re a side-sleeper, Helix offers three options: the typical soft mattress ( Sunset), as well as a medium ( Midnight) and firm one ( Twilight). It's also made with the most popular level of firmness and offers pressure point relief for side sleepers.Helix’s large menu is built on the idea that sleep position alone doesn’t dictate your firmness choices-personal preference counts, too.
